Dr. Susan Gallagher
Dr. Susan C. Gallagher is currently a Professional Development Coordinator for the Illinois RtI Network, a State Personnel Development Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, she is the Director of Professional Development & School Psychology Services at the La Grange Area Department of Special Education (LADSE) in LaGrange, Illinois.
After earning her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, Susan gained valuable experience as a Behavior Specialist on the Severe Behavior Unit at the Kennedy-Krieger Institute, a children’s hospital affiliated with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Since earning her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon’s prestigious School Psychology Program, Susan has worked as a school psychologist, staff development trainer, educational researcher, and special education coordinator. She has worked extensively in Oregon, Iowa, and Illinois, and with students from early childhood through college. Additionally, Susan has served as an adjunct faculty member at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, and Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. Susan has expertise in many areas; with particular interest in early literacy and staff development. A colleague once described her as a “veritable encyclopedia when it comes to innovation in special education, particularly in reading and behavior.” Dr. Gallagher often works with administrators on developing high quality professional development for teachers utilizing the RTI framework, and school psychologists to become intervention experts. Dr. Gallagher and Dr. Dale collaborate to provide training and consultation on building RTI support systems on both sides of the pyramid, academics and social-behavior.
